Both now seventeen, a twist of fate causes their worlds to collide, making them question everything they ever believed. Entangled in a web of secrets and lies, they learn that while different on the surface, they have more in common than anyone would think

My honest review:

Beautifully written, gut-wrenching, filled with so many twist & over-the-edge-suspense.

From the beginning, the story hooked you with it’s secrets, making you want to know more and more, so it’s hard to put down. It’s very dark & gruesome but also heart warming romantic . The words and quotes made me breathless. I feel like learning Italian after reading this.

“Colpo di fulmine. The thunderbolt, as Italians call it. When love strikes someone like lightning, so powerful and intense it can’t be denied. It’s beautiful and messy,
cracking a chest open and spilling their soul out for the world to see. It turns a person inside out, and there’s no going back from it. Once the thunderbolt hits, your life is
irrevocably changed.”

Being the unwanted illegitimate daughter of Master Antonelli, Haven & her mother was constantly abused and being treated as a slave  all her life. Her life was at threaten one day and she tried to escaped , but unfortunately she was caught. The Antonelli then sold her to another powerful Mafia family Dr Vincent DeMarco, leaving her separated from her mother. She’s now to served a new master. Dr Vincent  Demarco is a widower with two teenage son, Dominic & Carmine. Sworn to the Mafia family ties he can’t escape the criminal life, though he wanted his sons to have a different life to his. The Demarco sons are very kind to Haven, and Carmine find himself eventually falling for Haven. However Haven present stirs up conflict in his family, and they will faced life threatening event in order to stay together.

“Nella vita: chi non risica, non rosica,” he said finally, his voice quiet. “In life: nothing ventured, nothing gained. My mom used to tell us that. It’s been a long time, but I can still hear her saying it.”

The story does goes on a very detail on the family history . The only complaint I have is that some part of the book are too draggy and I had to skimmed through less important parts of the book to get to the important points,(To the part where the romancing between Carmine & Haven  because I’m impatient!!! I really hate doing that to a book)  If this book was edited to be slightly more shorter, focusing more on the core points, the story in my opinion will be deliver more powerfully. ( I can’t believe the fan fiction is even more lengthy covering 80 chapters!!! and that the book is already been shorten!!) I’m giving it 4.5 star, though i might change my mind about the rating, if I found the time again to re-read it in not so rush of a time.
